Steven Mark Van Wieren, a beloved husband, father, and grandfather, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, at age 73. Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Ewald and Elaine Van Wieren; an infant son; and daughter, Megan Brower. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Sharon (Vos) Van Wieren; son, Mark (Liz) Van Wieren; grandchildren Westley Van Wieren, Everest Van Wieren, Autumn Van Wieren, Charlotte Brower, and Jonah Brower; brother, Ronald (Diane) Van Wieren; as well as his nieces, nephews, and other family members and friends.
Steve received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in engineering from Michigan State and qualified as a Professional Engineer. He was always working at something. He spent the first half of his professional career at Herman Miller, where he was credited with the development of several patents. Steve and his brother, Ron, always had a business on the side, and in 2001, he took the leap to only work for himself. Steve eventually expanded their information services company to service nearly the whole state of Michigan. On top of all of this, he served as an adjunct professor at Grand Rapids Community College, teaching math and engineering classes for nearly ten years.
Service was central to Steve’s life. He was an active member of Calvary Church and a firm believer in the value of mission work. He was passionate about work done in India and Africa, traveling there to work with partners. For 20 years, he led services every other week at a local elder care facility for those unable to travel to church.
Steve had many joys in life: he loved his Savior Jesus, loved to travel with family, cherished precious time with his five grandchildren, and he loved cars, a passion he dove into after retirement. He restored several vintage Corvettes, always preferring them bright red, while buying and selling dozens of other cars.
Visitation with friends and family will be held from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, January 29, 2026, at Cook Memorial Chapel (East Building), 4235 Prairie St. SW, Grandville. A celebration of Steve's life will commence 11 a.m. Friday, January 30, 2026, with visitation one hour prior to the service, at Calvary Church, 707 East Beltline Ave. NE, Grand Rapids. In honor of Steve and in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Mission India. The family welcomes memories and messages at www.cookcaresgrandville.com in his guest book online.
