

Rev. Thomas Eugene Pierce, age 75, went to be with his Lord Sunday, May 12, 2019. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother. He will be remembered by his wife Karen “Sue” Pierce; children Kerri (Cameron) Scott and Sheila (Don) Ellis; grandchildren Tara, Andrea, Leah, Trent, Jonathan, Ashley, and Pearl; several nieces, nephews, and many friends.
Rev. Pierce graduated from California State University and University of Michigan. As an educator, Rev. Pierce was a speech and language pathologist employed by Grand Rapids Public Schools for over 17 years. He was dedicated to working with children who were physically and mentally impaired. He also taught children with autism in the district’s special needs programs. In 1980, Rev. Pierce was called into the ministry and full-time service for God. He studied and was ordained in the Assemblies of God through Berean University. Rev. Pierce served as Associate Pastor of Education for 17 years at Grand Rapids First Church in Wyoming, Michigan. He then answered the call to serve as Education and Discipleship Pastor at Manassas Assembly of God in Manassas, Virginia for three years. The Pierce family returned to Michigan in 2001, and Rev. Pierce retired in 2004. Since his retirement, Rev. Pierce has enjoyed traveling, spending time with his grandchildren, and working on his computer.
Visitation with relatives and friends will be held from 6 - 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 21, 2019 at Cook Memorial Chapel (East building), 4235 Prairie St. SW, Grandville, MI 49418. A Memorial Service Celebration of Life will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 22, 2019 with visitation one hour prior at Grand Rapids First Church, 2100 44th Street SW, Wyoming, MI 49519. Interment is at Georgetown Cemetery. In honor of Rev. Pierce and in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Missions Fund of Grand Rapids First Church.
