

Clifford Eckles, 95, of Grants Pass, Oregon died Wednesday, July 20, 2016, at Asante Three Rivers Medical Center in Grants Pass. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, July 29, 2016, at Chico Cemetery in Chico, California. A memorial service at Redwood Country Church in Grants Pass will be held at 3 p.m., Sunday, August 21st, with Pastor Terell Bowdoin officiating. One of thirteen children, Clifford was born in Sedalia, Missouri on February 12, 1921. On October 19, 1941 in Macdoel, California he married Vera J. Shoemaker, who died July 20, 2011. He served briefly in the U.S. Army in the post-World War II period. In 1947 he moved to Chico, Calif. from Malin, Oregon, where he had been a potato farmer. He and Vera moved to Grants Pass, Ore. in 1997 from Sacramento, Calif. Before his retirement he was a lumber mill worker. Clifford was a member of various Baptist churches and served as a deacon of the Baptist Church of Chico for many years. He enjoyed gardening and travel. Survivors include his daughter, Sharlene Bounds of Grants Pass; one brother, Warney Eckles of Illinois; two sisters, Frances Tackett of Missouri and Betty Andreatta of California; five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Jeannette E. Eclkes and a son, David L. Eckles. Chapel of the Valley - L.B. Hall Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
