Evelyn Rose Forshay-Cassen was born January 16, 1934 in Lafayette, Indiana. The oldest child of Richard & Hazel Vlastos. Her family moved to Southern California when she was a young child. At the age of 18, she eloped, marrying Jim Forshay and remained married to him for 36 years until he passed away on December 31, 1988. She worked side by side with Jim in the bail business in Southern California as well as becoming a licensed tax consultant. In 1985 they left Southern California and moved to Grants Pass. Although Jim retired, Evelyn was not ready to slow down, so she helped her middle son & daughter-in-law by doing the accounting and payroll at Rogue River Florist and later working for Home Away from Home Pet facility.
In 1992, Evelyn remarried her second love, Jack Cassen. As members of Merlin Baptist Church, they enjoyed their lives together until Jack passed in 2006. After Jack’s passing, Evelyn still had a need to keep busy, so she became a volunteer chaplain at 3 Rivers Hospital. She loved her time as a chaplain where she could share her love of the Lord.
Evelyn is survived by her 3 sons, Steven, Michael, & Richard and their wives. She has 5 grandchildren & 5 great Grandchildren. Her shining light & zest for life will truly be missed. Her love of God & Family couldn’t be more comforting for the one’s she held so dear.
