

Georgia Bowman Cavanaugh Owen
February 7, 1922 – December 30, 2018
Former National City/Chula Vista resident, 96, passed away peacefully in Grants Pass Oregon.
Georgia, the oldest of three children, was born February 7, 1922, to William J. and Edna B. Cavanaugh in Nogales, Arizona, and then moved to Palm City, California. She graduated from Westlake High School in Los Angeles, California. She married John E. “Jack” Owen on February 14, 1941, and had three beautiful daughters, Karen, Marcy and Valrie. The family lived in National City, California where Georgia went on to become the secretary for the National City/Chula Vista Boys and Girls Club for 25 years.
Georgia’s hobbies included crafting, many of which are displayed lovingly in her extended families’ homes. She enjoyed many projects, including knitting, crocheting, stained glass, fused glass, Bunka, needlepoint, toll painting, just to name a few. Among her many noteworthy crafting accomplishments, she proudly knitted 150 caps for the The Coats 4 Kids and handmade many framed fused flowers for cancer survivors. She also enjoyed ceramics and making lovely wind chimes out of glass bottles and firing them in her own kiln.
She was the granddaughter of Wirt and Magdalene Bowman, the original partial owners of the famous Agua Caliente Racetrack, Casino and Foreign Club located in Tijuana, Mexico.
At the time of Georgia’s passing, she was survived by her two daughters, Marcy A. McDonnell Kappner and husband Ralph of Grants Pass, Oregon; Valrie Owen Bacon and husband Steve of Osage Beach, Missouri; granddaughters, Catherine A. McDonnell Fletcher and husband Edwardo of Bonita, California, Teresa M. McDonnell Ferko and husband Ed of Bonita, California, Lori L. Bacon Kowalski and husband Chris of Chula Vista, California; Jeffrey T. Bacon and wife Robin of Millsboro, Delaware; and great-grandchildren, Thomas E. Fletcher and wife Kiersten, Edward C. Fletcher, Johni S. Fletcher, Kelsey N. Ferko, Haley N. Ferko, Kyle C. Kowalski, Wyatt S. Kowalski, Madelynn P. Bacon, Leela A. Bacon, Sosie Mae Georgia Bacon; and great-great-grandson Knox K. Fletcher.
Georgia was preceded in death by her husband Jack, her mother and father, her brother Wirt Cavanaugh and her sister Madeleine Cavanaugh Brewer and her daughter Karen L. Owen and her grandson John P. McDonnell.
