Not a day goes by that I don’t think of something we shared together…events growing up, our parents/relatives, travels, music, mutual friends… and you being my best friend. A void never to be filled, but a love that lasts forever. We had 80 wonderful years together! What a blessing!! RIP brother.

I just found out that Dr. Jones passed away. 
Dr. Jones hired me in 2000 when I really needed a job. Within days of working for him I knew I was truly blessed. Dr. Jones taught me a lot more than epidemiology; he taught me how to enjoy life. He included me in bioterrorism meetings and treated me like a colleague. He would invite my wife, Brenda, and me to his concerts.

I am a better person for having known Dr. Jones, and I offer my condolences to his family and friends for the earthly loss of a great, compassionate gentleman. God bless you, Dr. Jones, a true friend. I'll see you again, maybe over some heavenly chicken and dumplings. Tom

We remember and honor Bobby Jones for his many contributions to public health and our community,  as a colleague and friend. My thoughts and condolences are with his family.

A word with my brother Bob: 
There is no way to describe the numerous emotional swings I've experienced when I lost a brother so suddenly....sadness, anger, love, loneliness....memories flood by in overwhelming speed ricocheting through our 79 plus years together. We were blood brothers, we were best friends, we were singular playmates,  and we were the last of this Jones generation.
You were greatly admired by everyone for your incredible intelligence and amazing memory, but perhaps more admired for your warm, caring personality and unconditional support of family, friends, co-workers, and Dallas Cowboys. Your recall of people , places, date, and events was legendary. We have lost not only a wonderful man, father, uncle, and brother, but the singular orator of the Jones family history.  We draw some comfort from your association and contributions with the living testimonies you provided to the Bob Jones Nature Center, named after our grandfather and your name sake. I will constantly think of you and hold you deeply in my heart until we meet again.

Dr. Jones, working with others at Tarrant County Public Health, set up the first sandbox experiments as part of what eventually became one of the nation’s leading syndromic surveillance networks.  His awareness of what technology could do for epidemiology led to grant funding for Tarrant County to house an Advanced Practice Center (APC) to foster health situational awareness and general emergency preparedness in North Texas.  In that region and beyond, we’re all safer as a result.  I was fortunate to work on the APC team and want to acknowledge Dr. Jones’ leadership. He was a valued colleague and friend. I enjoyed seeing this unique, fun-loving, talented man at the parties that our mutual friend, Lee Hamilton, coordinated.  Dr. Jones touched many lives; he will be missed.   

Dr. Jones taught me a lot of epidemiology.  He liked to talk about "odds ratios." In fact, he just liked to teach.  

Our last visit: Bobby got an Uber to travel over 20 miles to one of my Chinese New Year's parties.  That was just couple of years ago.  He stayed until most of the guests had left so that we could catch up. I don't live in Texas anymore and co-hosted the party in someone else's home. How blessed I was that he came, and that he stayed, and that he cared. What a friend!

Bobby became quite known among supporters of the Bob Jones Nature Center in Southlake, Texas. I was one of its founders and  board members. Bobby, as a grandson of the center's namesake, was tapped many a time to attend special events. When I'd ask him to come, he seemed genuinely pleased --- and he  came through, time and again.  I hope he knew how much his participation meant to me personally as well as to the other volunteers. 

Whenever I was around Dr. Jones professionally, or Bobby personally, the world had more possibilities.





I want to extend my condolences to Bobby's family, and offer my prayers for you all.   I met Bobby in the Central Penn Symphony in 1993.  It was mentioned how generous Bobby was.   My very first rehearsal, Bobby pulled me aside and mentioned that a group of the orchestra met afterwards at a local restaurant.  Not knowing me at all, Bobby invited me into the orch. family that night!   Many a time I remember him pulling out his Platinum AMEX card and paying for  goodly amount of the collective bill!   I was impressed that he had his own oboe AND English horn!  And could PLAY them well---difficult instruments for most.   I was also impressed with his job in (then) Harrisburg and his educational/academic and research credentials!   We connected a few times on Face book several years ago before I got off all Social Media.   While we were not close since I left that orch. in 1994, I would see Bobby at York Symphony concerts over the next few years.   An outsider would say I knew the man hardly at all, and that probably would be true.  But what I DID get to know, impressed the heck out of me, and I mourn his loss from a distance--but was proud to know him for a little while!

Dr. Jones was a team player.  The Tarrant County Public Health and the Fort Worth City Public Health were both housed in the same building located in what used to be 1800 University Drive.  That property is now part of the Botanical Gardens housing BRIT and the address changed to 1700 University Drive.  The old public health building was torn completely down whereby BRIT constructed a brand new building.

Bobby was always very helpful in working with the Fort Worth Public Health staff.  I remember his assistance very well when he guided myself along with Tom Caylor, and Dr. Richard Shafer on our projects for the City.

He will be sorely missed.  Sending my sincere condolences and sympathy.   Hugs and prayers for his entire family.

I had the great fortune of meeting, falling in love with, and marrying Bobby's daughter, Meredith.  As if she was not more than enough, I found myself welcomed into a beautiful, loving new family.   Bobby was the first Jones I ever met, and he set the bar at a level that seemed impossibly high.  Having met most everyone else by now, I can say that I have yet to be disappointed by the Jones family.  But there will only be one Bobby Jones.  I will miss his hugs, his kisses slightly less.  And I will miss his jokes, particularly the very inappropriate ones.  Rest in peace, Doctor Jones.

Bob was known by many names. Son, brother, cousin, nephew, husband, dad, granddad, and friend. My favorite name, the one I called him, was Uncle. A sweet giving man. Intelligent, kind, humorous. My heart is broken by his unexpected death. He leaves behind a family that will recall several funny and touching stories about him. We loved him deeply and love him still.
