Born on January 26, 1947 in Hardtner, Kansas, Janet grew up in Kiowa, Kansas until her family relocated to Denton, Texas when she was in high school. Janet grew into a woman of quiet strength and unwavering compassion. She graduated from the University of North Texas with a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics and began her career at Texas Instruments. While she accomplished many things in her lifetime, she would always say her greatest joy—and her proudest title—was being “Mom.”
From the moment she welcomed her children into the world, motherhood and family became her purpose. She poured her whole self into creating a home filled with warmth, love, fun celebrations, and cherished memories. Holidays and celebrations were where her creativity and love truly shone. She made every gathering feel magical—full of thoughtful touches, heartfelt traditions, and a sense of togetherness that made everyone feel at home. Her ability to turn simple moments into cherished memories will be remembered by all who were blessed to share them with her.
Janet also found deep joy in helping others. She had a gift for encouraging others and making them feel loved. Her kindness touched countless lives, often in humble, meaningful ways that left a lasting impact. Janet lived her life as a faithful Christian reflecting her beliefs through her actions. She became involved at the First United Methodist Church of Fort Worth Women’s Mary Martha group. You could often find Janet carpooling older members to church and taking them to lunch making sure they could still enjoy worship and fellowship. Janet quietly donated to many meaningful charities including First Street Methodist Mission, Wounded Warrior Project, and various children’s homes.
Janet is survived by her children, Katherine Yount, Joanne Wisdom and son in law John Wisdom. She is also survived her siblings, Mike Lewis, Roger Lewis and sister-in-law Janice Lewis, sister-in-law Billy Raye Lipscomb, brother-in-law David Yount, sister-in-law Dawn Ellis as well as numerous much-loved cousins, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John Yount, her parents Delmar and Joan Lewis, her parents-in-law Hubert and Ruby Yount, siblings-in-law Kathleen Lenamon and Camille Cawley, and nephew Andrew Ellis.
Her legacy is one of kindness, resilience, generosity, and boundless affection. Her greatest gift was the love she shared. Though she will be deeply missed, her spirit lives on in the lives she shaped and in the love she so freely gave.
A visitation to celebrate her life will be held on Tuesday, December 9 from 6-8 pm at J.E. Foust and Son Funeral home in the heart of historic downtown Grapevine, Texas.
In lieu of flowers, the family invites those wishing to honor Janet’s memory to consider a donation to the Alzheimer’s Association in the hopes that someday, through awareness and research, no one will have to suffer from this disease.
