Ronald Stephen Archer

GRAPEVINE- Ron Archer, 81, passed away on Monday, October 31, 2022. Service: Emmons Macey Steffey Funeral Home, 1303 12th St. Lawrenceville, IL 62439. The service will be later next year. Ron was born on September 17, 1941 in Mitchell, IN to Grover and Dorothy Archer. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, son, brother & friend. Ron enjoyed spending time with his family & staying current with politics. He was a sports fan, and enjoyed St. Louis Cardinals & the Texas Rangers, and IU basketball (Go Hoosiers)!

Ron was raised as a preacher’s son and lived all over the state of IN, as his father was regularly transferred from church to church. He was a natural athlete in basketball & track, breaking state records. At the age of 17 he enlisted in the Marine Corps and spent 4 of the most significant years of his life serving his country. He was honorably discharged for employment with GTE/Verizon where he had a 34-year career as an electrical engineer. He married the love of his life, Linda, in 1967 and they had 2 daughters that they raised in Bloomington, IL & Grapevine, TX. He retired at the age of 55 and then enjoyed caring for his grandchildren and community activities in Grapevine. Ron was preceded in death by his wife, Linda Archer and his sister Donna Jean. Survivors: Daughters, Amy VanHook, Grapevine, TX. Beth Livingston & husband, Jeff, Charlotte, NC. Grandchildren: Michael VanHook, Natalie VanHook, Lauren Livingston & William Livingston. Sister, Elizabeth Grant. Nephew, Matthew Sunkel. Brother-in Law, Tracey Gay (Amy), Eric Gay & Damon Gay (Lorraine). Numerous, cousins & extended family members, too.
