David A. Isacowitz, aged 79, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 21, 2026, in the Palliative Care Unit at North Shore Hospital. He was born on December 7, 1946, in Brooklyn to Bernard and Sally Isacowitz. He is survived by his wife, Shari, and their daughters, Anne (William) and Vicki. His granddaughters, Jordan and Zoe, were the light of his life. He was predeceased by his parents and brothers, Stuart Isacowitz and Daniel Isacowitz.
David grew up in Neponsit, Queens. The Atlantic Ocean was his literal next-door neighbor. The beach and the sea were central to his identity.
A graduate of Brooklyn Technical High School and Syracuse University, David was a trailblazer in the field of enterprise software. The company he founded, Applied Information Management Inc. (AIM), built software for the entertainment industry. For decades, AIM served television networks and film studios such as Twentieth Century Fox and Tribune Entertainment.
David was a passionate skier and avid golfer. A recreational pilot in his twenties, he often spoke of returning to the cockpit. He relished time in nature, especially in Olympic Valley, CA, and at Great Neck’s Stepping Stone Park. He skied the French Alps at least once a year and loved to travel. He was a longtime member of Fresh Meadow Country Club. David doted on cats and was keenly interested in cat rescue.
Time with his adored (and adoring) granddaughters was his favorite activity, and he reveled in their accomplishments. More than anything, he took pride in their growth as kind-hearted, hardworking, and creative young adults.
Memorial contributions may be made to the North Shore Animal League or FIDF.
