Elaine was a life-long New Yorker, growing up on Andrews Avenue in the Bronx. She attended Hunter College, and married Richard Farber z”l in 1945. They moved to Forest Hills, NY in 1950, and then in 1954 settled in New Hyde Park, NY. She began by serving coffee at section meetings and moved on to chair a cross section of committees in the local section on Long Island, first in the park and then the Lakeville section. She was co-editor of the council section newsletter, Courier, and a teacher/mentor at the Mineola Mental Health Agency. Her work with Head Start resulted in the Parent-Child Home Program in Great Neck. She was treasurer when the Park and Great Neck sections merged to form the Lakeville section, established and ran a profitable thrift shop in Great Neck, and with the Visiting Nurses of Great Neck researched childcare needs to establish Open Door, a childcare center.
Elaine’s legacy will live on in her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. May her memory forever be a blessing, zichrona l’vrachah
