Mrs. Helene Faith Kamer (Sarr), age 89, of Antioch, California (formerly of Great Neck, New York for the better part of 68 years), peacefully passed away Sunday, March 16, 2025, at her residence. She was born July 11, 1935, in Brooklyn, New York, daughter of the late Jacob and Sylvia Sarr. Helene was primarily raised, with great pride, in Bayonne, New Jersey.
Helene was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Harvey C. Kamer.
She was a member of Temple Emanuel of Great Neck, a homemaker, officer/owner of The Camp Shop, Inc., camp outfitters of New York City, New York and later an office manager for the better part of 25 years at Norca Corp. based in Great Neck, New York. She received her Bachelors of Arts degree from Long Island University/C.W. Post College. She was an accomplished artist and enjoyed teaching art in the Great Neck Public School system as a substitute. She enjoyed traveling, attending theater, reading, and spending precious time with her family.
Helene is survived by a son and daughter: Andrew Edward Kamer and Anne Kamer D’Elia; Andrew’s long time companion: Sherry Margolin; three grandchildren: Sandee D’Elia Sandbrink, Jordan Douglas Kamer and Melanie Kamer Greene: two grandson-in-laws, William Sandbrink and Jared Greene: one granddaughter-in-law, Melissa Tannenbaum Kamer; and great-grandchild: Jocelyn Harper Sandbrink. She also leaves behind many other family members and friends who will fondly miss her.
Funeral service will be held 2:00p.m. Thursday, March 20, at Union Field Cemetery-Cypress Hill in Ridgewood, New York, with Rabbi Robert Widom officiating.
Shiva will be begin on Thursday immediately following the burial until 9 p.m, Friday from 12:00pm to 6:00pm and Sunday from 11:00am to 5:00pm at 45 Hill Park Avenue, Apt 1J, Great Neck, New York.
