

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Paul A. Gitman age 83, on Sunday, June 16th, 2024. He was a graduate of Columbia University and Boston University School of Medicine and completed his internal medicine training at Long Island Jewish Medical Center. He practiced general internal medicine until he accepted the responsibility as Chief of the Division of General Internal Medicine and Director of Quality Management at Long Island Jewish Hospital. Paul advanced to Vice President of Clinical Care and Resource Management and then to Medical Director at Long Island Jewish Hospital. He was promoted to Vice President of Medical Affairs for the North Shore Long Island Jewish Health System and retired in October 2009. Throughout his professional career, Paul was a role model and mentor who impacted the lives of countless patients and colleagues.
Paul was an avid photographer and traveler who visited every remote corner of the earth. He shared his love of travel with his wife of 61 years, his children and his grandchildren. He deeply loved his wife and the family they nurtured. His photographs can be seen on the walls of LIJMC and in the homes and offices of his many friends.
He is survived by his wife Gail, children Robin, Linda (Scott), and Michael (Cindy) and grandchildren Isabel, Anthony, Veronica, Matthew, Jenna, Zachary, Zoe, Joshua, and Gabrielle.
