

She was born April 8, 1923, in Greeley, to Stuart H. Lovelace and Eva May Lovelace. The family soon moved to Englewood, CO, where Annie May grew up and graduated from Englewood High School. She then attended CU Boulder where she obtained a B.S. in Medical Technology. After graduating, she decided to enlist in the WAVES to contribute to the nation during World War II. Stationed at St. Albans Hospital on Long Island, NY, she met her future husband, Lowel E. Pierce, with whom she would share 74 loving years of marriage.
After the war, Annie May worked at a lab in Hollywood while Lowel finished his degree in Microbiology at USC in Los Angeles, CA. They moved to Greeley in 1950 where they established the Greeley Medical Laboratory, later to become Pierce Medical Laboratory, which they owned and operated together for 36 years. They raised 5 children on their acreage who were privileged to grow up owning horses and being involved in 4-H with a variety of farm animals. Annie May loved XC skiing, hiking, painting, reading, square dancing, playing tennis, traveling the world with Lowel and spending time with her family, especially at the rustic family cabin near Eldora, CO. She and Lowel traveled to Africa where lions passed through their camp, to Nepal where they rode elephants through a tiger sanctuary, rafted, and trekked the Himalayas, to China, Greenland, Eastern and Western Europe and to many other countries as well.
Annie May was a lifetime learner and volunteered into her 90’s. She held various offices as a member of the Assistance League. She was an active community member, belonging to First Congregational Church for 70 years, where she joined the Ruth Group, P.E.O. for 80 years, and her neighborhood book club for 27 years. She also loved to attend concerts of the Greeley Philharmonic Orchestra and musical events at UNC in Greeley. Annie May was wise, generous, and loving. She was an advocate for civil rights and nature.
Surviving family members are her brother, Dr. Stuart A. Lovelace of Wheat Ridge, her five children: Luann (John) Mathey of Loveland, Lowel (Adriana) Pierce of Littleton, David (Dorothy) Pierce of Fort Collins, Janet (Jay) Earl of Loveland, and Susan (Gunars) Pierce- Platais of Del Norte, Colorado. Annie May leaves a legacy of ten grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Celebration of Life services will be held on May 5th at 2 pm at The First Congregational Church, 2101 16th St., Greeley, CO. Reception following at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The First Congregational Church, Pathways Hospice and/or the National Parks Foundation.
