Augustina DeFries

Augustina DeFries went home with the Lord on Friday, December 19, 2014, after a brief stay at Bonell Good Samaritan Center. Her life here ended after battling Parkinson’s and dementia. She was born in North Platte, Nebraska, and was raised in Northport, Nebraska, where she graduated from Bridgeport High School, something she was always very proud of.

Tina married Fermin Martinez in 1962. They had five children together whom they raised in Ft. Morgan, Colorado. Her husband passed away in 1985 and she later married Rick DeFries in August of 2000. They made their home in Oak Harbor, Washington, and later returned to Colorado.

Tina worked as a Dietary Aide and later a kitchen supervisor at the Ft. Morgan Hospital. She lived her life centered around her family. She loved when they could gather and enjoy a meal together. She was a homemaker making the best tamales, sewing, crocheting, and keeping a very tidy home. She loved butterflies, combing the beaches, seeing different parts of the U.S., and trekking weather events around the world.

Tina is survived by her husband Rick of Greeley, Colorado; son and daughter-in-law Matthew and Gina Martinez of Greeley; daughter and son-in-law Lori and Jim Lechman of Evans; daughter and son-in-law Andrea and Doug Christensen of Brighton; daughter Rachel Martinez of Austin, Texas and son and daughter-in-law Aaron and Lana Martinez of Oak Harbor, Washington; grandchildren Trevor, Adam, Jayme, Jenny, Samuel, Sydney, Kale, Lars, Tara and Nicoyia; sisters Mary Benavides of Gering, Nebraska, Vicky Aris of Cheyenne, Wyoming, Delores Ayala of Phoenix, Arizona, Micaela Camarillo of Lummi Island, Washington and Pat and Frank Gonzales of Oak Harbor, Washington; brothers Vic and Barb Vasquez of Discovery Bay, California, Lee and Susan Vasquez of Coralville, Iowa, and Marce Vasquez of Bayard, Nebraska, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Tina was preceded in death by her parents, Ventura and Jacinto Vasquez, her husband Fermin Martinez and brothers Demas Vasquez and Alfonso Vasquez.

Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, December 22, 2014 at Calvary Chapel of Greeley. Interment will follow place at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Andrea Christensen to help cover the funeral cost.
