A Writer's Story
My name is Bernie,
I am a writer. I started writing a novel about vampires and witches when I was in my late teens, just after I graduated from high school. At a certain point, I set it aside and ignored it. I picked it up again when I was in my 40's. I started tinkering with it on and off. I became serious about continuing the work when I was in my 50's. I made progress then I hit writer's block. What they say about writer's block is true. It is hard to get around a block. One of the problems was that before I could conceptualize an ending I needed to go back and revamp the first part of the book. Details were missing in the preceding sections. I am working on changing the wording and changing the way the words sound.
I have always been interested in writing. I dabbled in high school, writing one-page stories. Writing is something that is deep inside of me. I have always said If you wake up thinking about writing you are a writer. If you wake up thinking about something else you are not a writer. I wake up thinking about writing.
I have shared my unfinished novel with my sister. Even though she is a poet, she likes the story and is encouraging me to finish. Our shared love of words brings us closer together.
I am not a religious person. I consider myself a spiritual person. I write thoughts here and there about my spiritual experiences. Most of my current writing is in my head and not yet written down. For example, if you give power to the devil, he will have power over you. If you give power to the Lord, he takes it and used it for good. The Lord is everywhere as well as God. The devil is only there when you give power to him. The power you give to the Lord will return to you when you need it the most.
My advice to another writer is that you need to become the writer and you need to stick with it. Don't give up. If you are like me, you have so much in your head. I want to take what is in my head and get it down on paper. If you really want to write, set aside all distractions and become the character in your story. Then you are truly, in my opinion, a writer.
