Betty Ruth Sauer

She was born December 27, 1925 in Berthoud to John and Alice Schreiner Schleuger (Germans from Russia immigrants).

She married Wayne Sauer June 20, 1943 in Berthoud. Soon after their marriage, Wayne enlisted in the Army and went to Europe during World War II. Early on during this separation, Betty gave birth to their first son, Terry. After Wayne’s return, her other two sons, Paul and David were born.

Betty worked as a meat wrapper for Safeway, Food Giant and Albertsons in Longmont for 18 years, then 11 years at IBM Boulder in food services until retirement at the age of 62.

Betty and Wayne lived in Longmont from 1950 to 1996 before moving to Loveland.

Betty selected the house on Lawson Dr. in Loveland, even with the initial reluctance of Wayne. Once there, they made it their ‘retirement home’, and soon it became known among family and friends as a warm and welcoming home. They both made friends with many of their neighbors; especially Betty. She became involved in numerous social activities in the neighborhood and in the community.

She enjoyed keeping the house and yard beautifully decorated throughout the seasons. Betty loved to cook and she always had that ‘secret’ way of making even ordinary food seem special.

Wayne preceded her in death as did her parents, three sisters and two brothers.

She is survived by her sons, Terry (Joan), Paul and David (Sally), her six grandchildren, MyLan Smith, Amy Hitt, Peter Sauer, Greg Sauer, Jeff Sauer, and Ben Sauer. She also had eight great grandchildren, a great great grandchild on the way, and numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held 2 pm Monday May 8th at the Allnutt Loveland Chapel with a reception to follow. Cremation has been conducted. Betty and Wayne planned to place their remains at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver, to be conducted with a private ceremony.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Meals on Wheels of Loveland/Berthoud or National Stroke Association in care of Allnutt Loveland Chapel.
