To all Carmichaels Kansas & Colorado..Bruce was never a colleague to me just friend made in the formative years when you have no facades. He dated a girl from my high school 'East high' and I dated a girl from his high school 'Southeast"". Of course they wanted us to meet so thats how it all began. 1965 we were both working where Bruce's dad had worked Garwin Industries building instruments for air planes on the second shift raising $ for school. Usually when we would get off 12:00 A.M. we would have a beer or two and go skateboarding @ WSU or College hill park. A late night band practice with Bruce was also an occurrence. Bruce was a large handsome guy, running back in football and quarter miler in track. I was not! He was quiet and polite. I was not. He was academic. I was not.We were an odd mix. I was a trouble maker. Bruce was not. Opposites defiantly attract..When he graduated wsu my brother in law was in Wichita  
interviewing for IBM. He hired Bruce and off to N.Y. he went.  I was off the military. We weren't to meet again till his 40th class reunion. A man came up to me and said are you Jimmy Chester  and it was like we had never missed a beat. That's when we started anew. He and Lindi would come to the ""Chester Inn"" & spend a weekend and then in return Marsha and I would be in Estes Park at the ""Carmichael Ranch"" fabulous easy companionship. Maybe it was the wine. Then later 2015 @ Southeast 50th reunion  we went together, shared a table and I got to see the respect he garnered from his high school pears. I'll miss his one of kind karma. ""Quirky everything"" we brought out the best is each other. I loved watching him build a fire on the deck in Estes. He did the craziest work with a giant bellows? I'll miss him but he will sure be easy to remember and recall, ""James Taylor look alike"". He was one of a kind. Rest in peace old friend. Jim

To the Carmichael family - I just learned about Bruce's passing this evening after Mary Ellen Conlee shared this news recently.  I was quite shocked to hear of this, especially given that Bruce had remained active and actually died while or soon after hiking, from what I understand.  I worked at St. Francis in Wichita but not directly with Bruce, however, my memories of him are all very fond.  He will certainly be missed by many.  God Bless his soul.

Dear Lindi and family, Mary Ellen Conley sent an email today regarding Bruce. I was in Estes last fall and saw a picture of him in the local paper. I tried to call, but the number I found wasn't working. Bruce played a major role in my life when he hired me as the director of marketing at St. Francis. It was one of the best jobs and the people who were at the hospital are still friends today. I will always be grateful for Bruce and that eventful turn in my life. I learned so much from him. He was alway a 'steady hand' when it came to tough issues. Please know he made a major, positive difference in who I am today. I will look you up on the next trip. My deepest condolences. He will be missed by many.

Dear Lindi, Ashley, Drew and family,
I am so saddened and shocked to learn of Bruce's passing. I so valued his and your friendship that developed around our shared love of wine, food and sharing life's experiences together. I will always fondly remember those times and the delightful conversations we had. I do miss you all being part of the Louisville community. I will never forget your collective generosity in helping my career search at the time.

I wish you all my dearest thoughts during this challenging time, and please know Bruce and you all have a special place in my heart.  I will be honored to make a contribution to Rotary in his memory.

Our condolences, prayers and thoughts are with Bruce, Lindi and family during this difficult time. Fond memories of Bruce will keep him in our hearts and minds in the days ahead.

As many of us can attest, Bruce was a good friend and colleague. He was at the same time analytical and intellectually curious yet always maintained that dry sense of humor. And his ""calm reasoning"".......was a trait any management team would treasure in the midst of controversy or chaos. He wasn't always the ""most fun"" to be with, but he ""added value"" to every encounter. He persistently remained interested in the pursuits of his friends and stayed in touch throughout the years.

Bruce often spoke with pride about his children and, now, grandchildren. And they will surely speak proudly of him. And Lindi......memories of our first meeting 25 or so years ago seem so fresh. There was ""soul mate"" aura about the new couple.......still there these many years later.

One-of-a-kind Bruce! Truly unique! We are going to miss you!

So very sorry for your loss.  As a colleague, Bruce was a leader, a mentor and a friend.  He was truly someone that I admired and looked to for counsel and support.  He approached every day with a passion for the best outcomes for the patients and the team that he supported.  To his family and friends, I send my deepest sympathies.  Thoughts and prayers to you during this difficult time.

My deepest condolences to the family. The Bible talks about God doing away with pain that we feel when we lose someone we love at Rev 21:4. May God provide a great amount of comfort to your family at this time.
