Katie Rychel of Thornton, Colorado passed away Thursday, March 17, 2016 in Loveland, Colorado. She was born July 07, 1931, in Denver to Samuel and Elvira Marquez. The five Marquez sisters were Rosie, Evelyn, Beatrice, Frances and Katie. Her brothers were Edward, Albert, and half-brother Raymond. Frances and Raymond survive Katie.
On March 27, 1947, she married Fredrick F. Rychel after working with him at the Navarre, an upscale restaurant near the Brown Palace Hotel in downtown Denver. This was where their love for each other and their love of cooking began. He preceded her in death in 1985 after 38 years of marriage.
Katie worked in the retail industry for over 30 years, retiring from Woolworth in 1992 as the Front End Manager of cashiers.
She moved to Loveland, Colorado five years ago and lived at Lakeview Commons Assisted Living. She always had a kind word and welcoming smile for all who crossed her path. Always the social butterfly, she loved to play bingo, attend happy hour, enjoyed yoga, and never passed up a chance to brag about one of her grand or great grandchildren’s latest accomplishments.
She was a feisty woman with a great sense of humor. She loved Diet Pepsi, Red Lobster and Boston Terriers. An outstanding cook, her pork green chili was a staple at our family get-togethers. We are thankful for all the memories we have shared with her and she will be greatly missed.
She was preceded in death by her husband Frederick F. Rychel, and her sons Anthony M. Rychel and Frederick F. Rychel, Jr.
Katie is survived by her two daughters, Mary Fancher (Barry) of Fort Collins, CO, and Dorothy Harrington (Brian), of Westminster, CO, and her daughter-in-law, Christine Rychel (Anthony), of El Cajon, CA.
In addition, she is survived by her grandchildren, Sarah, Autumn, Craig, Ross, Brandon, Leslie and Matthew who were the joys of her life. She is also survived by her great-grandchildren, Jordan, Riley and Colton who spent special time cooking and playing games with Grandma Katie. She was looking forward to the arrival of great-grand Baby Wickeraad.
A special thanks to the amazing staff and residents of Lakeview for the care and friendship that they provided for Katie while she lived there.
Thanks to the wonderful staff at North Shore Health and Rehab Facility and Pathways Hospice in Loveland, Colorado who cared for Katie during her recent illness. The loving and professional care that they provided for her was a comfort and blessing to her family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to your favorite charity in Katie’s memory. She volunteered for various charities and believed in the help that they provided.
A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday March 24, 3:00 p.m. followed by a reception at Allnutt Funeral Home, 2100 N. Lincoln Avenue, Loveland, CO 80538.
