

Charles Lanen Selcer, Sr. left us Sunday, September 11, 2016 to seek his future in heaven. Charlie was born in Refugio, Texas to Edward and Lottie Mae Selcer January 29, 1933. He graduated from Calallen High School in 1952. Charlie met Kay Gates in 1954 and found he could not do without her so they were married in 1955, celebrating 62 years of marital bliss. He is survived by his siblings Jerry (Laura) Selcer, Lee (Terry) Selcer and his youngest brother Walter (Susan) Selcer. He was proceeded in death by his father Edward F. Selcer, mother Lottie Mae Busby Selcer, His brother Donald Ray Selcer, and his sister Edna Mae Wishard. He was known to complain about his loving wife telling him to feed the chickens and chop more firewood but in his heart he wanted to make her happy and fulfill their needs. Charlie was a life time member of “Help Everyone especially kids Club.” Charlie was a Veteran of the Korean War, he served in the Army. Charlie’s job in the Army was to clear runways for the military planes landing in Anchorage, Alaska. Charlie was the father of 6 kids; Nancy (John Evans), Charles Jr. (Kathy Selcer), Patricia (Robert Story), Nelson (Michele Selcer), Nelda (Darin Green), Zelda Keim. 9 Grandchildren and 6 Great Grandchildren. Charlie was known for his chickens and fresh eggs including multi-color Easter eggs that his chickens laid. He was always visiting the county shop and Wyatt Redi-Mix to see the old crews. After retiring from ASARCO in Corpus Christi, Texas then he traveled the country working and retired from Fluor Daniels. Charlie moved to Colorado in 1986 and to Walden in 2010 to find his residence. He never met a stranger, and could not be friendlier if he tried. He enjoyed his family, hunting, and fishing. He will be missed by those who knew and loved him. Charlie spent 15 years being a Boy scout leader and sponsor for a multitude of camping trip and hiking trips. Services are being held at Mountain view Baptist church at address on Saturday September 17, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. and internment at the Jackson County Cemetery immediately following, with fellowship at Mountain View Baptist following interment please come and visit and tell and share in stories about Charlie.
