A much-loved father, grandfather and friend, David H. Sarchet, 84, passed away in his home October 12, 2015 in Platteville, Colorado. He battled COPD in his last few years, confronting the slow progressive disease head on. He was born on February 9, 1931 in Platteville, Colorado to Dwight and Hazel (Martin) Sarchet. He graduated from Platteville High School in 1949. He married Joyce Bateman in Fort Lupton in 1951, sharing their union until her death in 2006.
At an early age, David was happiest working with his hands and farming the land. It was in his blood from several generations of farmers before him. He never had a need to travel very far away from “his place”. He had a knack for being inventive and applied his talents to most everything he touched. Preferring to fix or build, was a joy he cherished and everything David did had a purpose and a plan. Stories, as a young man from moving small houses singlehandedly to an attempt to constructing a helicopter, were evidence of his character. He was a very patient, generous and loving man. David loved going to his mountain cabin, watching over his fields of alfalfa and wheat and the companionship of his old, sweet and loyal dog “Sammy”. David liked simple pleasures and will be remembered by his invitations to share them with us all; sharing popcorn and peanuts, going to eat a burger, drinking a Coors, constructing numerous jigsaw puzzles or watching a good ol’ western. We will miss him greatly.
He is survived by a son, Scott Sarchet and his wife Nancy of Platteville; two daughters, Shawn Sarchet of Platteville and Stacy Brown and husband Michael of Greeley. Grandchildren, Virginia (Ben) Lovins; Justin (Nathan) Hersh; Jeffrey Sarchet; Baylee, Tori and Jessi Brown. Great grandchildren, Brianna and Bella Lovins. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; brother Dale and sisters Billie and Laura.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to The Wild Animal Sanctuary, Hospice and Palliative Care of Northern Colorado or the Humane Society of Weld County in care of Stoddard Funeral Home, 3205 W. 28th Street, Greeley, Colorado 80634
