She was born to Will and Emma (Perkins) Wickstrom in 1925 in a little house on 2nd St in Greeley, a house, a home, and a community that shaped the woman she became. Born in the “Roaring 20s” she came of age during the great depression. She grew up in a community and at a time when neighbors looked out for each other and were like extended family. They were difficult times, no indoor plumbing in the early years, her mother sewed all their clothes, the garden supplied much of their food and yet, when strangers showed up at the door, tired and hungry, they shared. Jeanne recalled a hungry college student who came saying that he heard you could get something to eat at this house. Her mother sat him down and gave him a bowl of soup. There were good times too. When Island Grove Park is nearby and your older sister is a lifeguard, you get to spend a lot of time at the pool.
Perhaps because of her early years, Jeanne was always one of kindest, gentlest people you would ever meet. The little house on 2nd street was her home until she married Edward Boresen in 1944, in a ceremony that took place in the house.
The couple took up residence on a newly purchased farm west of Greeley where the city girl became a farm wife and learned to clean milking barns. To this union two children were born, a daughter, Lynn and a son, Steve. These were good years, they worked hard and had a good life, full of love and adventure. In 1983 she lost Ed, a kind and gentle man who adored her.
In 1988, she married Johnny Dillon who had lost his wife a few years earlier. Johnny was an antique auto enthusiast, and they attended many antique automobile events in period dress. Johnny too was a kind and gentle man, and they built a happy life together. She lost Johnny and her son Steve in 2000 and was alone again, with Lynn living in Portland, Oregon
During her time in Estes Park, she was active in P.E.O. Chapter HF and acted as an Ambassador at the Estes Park Visitors Center. She maintained an active life well into her 90s and when Lynn was stricken with Parkinson’s, she decided to move to Oregon to be with her. When Lynn passed away, Jeanne immediately returned to her beloved Colorado and settled in Fort Collins where her many nieces and nephews who reside in Northern Colorado could visit.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands and both her children. She is survived by her nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be held on Monday, November 17 at 11:00 a.m. at Stoddard Funeral Home, 3205 W 28th St, Greeley, Colorado. A reception will follow with Graveside services at Sunset Memorial Gardens at 1:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate memorials in Jeanne’s name to the charity of the donor’s choice.
