Delores Mae Lindstrom, age 94 passed away peacefully and entered her Heavenly home on Wednesday October 29th in Greeley, CO. She was born to Benard and Edna Swanson on January 23, 1931, in Greeley CO. She was raised 4 miles Northeast of Greeley on her family farm. She attended school at Pleasant Valley #58 through 8th grade and then attended College High in Greeley from 9th-12th grade where she was very active, playing basketball, softball, Student Council secretary and was Homecoming Queen her Senior year. She graduated from College High in 1948.
She chose not to go to college even though she had a teacher’s scholarship and instead was hired as a secretary at the Farr company in Greeley from 1948-1952. She met Donald W. Lindstrom at the Swedish First Covenant Church in Greeley when she was 14, playing the piano for Sunday School, and he was 18 at home on leave from the Navy. Their families were both members and actively involved at the church with her grandparents being founding members. They married 6 years later on April 6th, 1951, at the age of 20 and 25. They started a family and moved into the Hillside Neighborhood across the street from Farr Park in 1957, where they were very involved and raised their four children. They were very dedicated and active members of the First Covenant Church. They both sang in the choir and played many musical duets as Delores played the piano and Don played the violin. In 1985 they joined the Greeley Wesleyan Church after the closing of the Covenant Church and became active members. They enjoyed being involved there, especially participating in the choir and the Senior Singers. Don passed away in 2010, and Delores remained in their home in the Hillside community until 2020. She moved to the Greeley Place Senior Living apartments in 2020 and then moved to the Lifecare Center of Greeley in 2023 and lived there until the time of her death.
Delores was a full-time homemaker and poured all of her time, love and devotion into raising her 4 children and all of their activities. The Hillside swimming pool and the kids’ events there kept her active as well as being secretary for the neighborhood community picnics. She enjoyed her lady’s weekly neighborhood get togethers playing games and socializing. She utilized her talents of dictation and typing with side jobs as she had many secretarial positions. She was Secretary for CBMC (Christian Businessmen’s Club), the Greeley Central Booster Club and the bowling league that she and Don were a part of. She worked every school and government election in Greeley and also worked at both Aims Community College and the University of Northern Colorado during registration.
Her passions were her faith, family, travelling to see family and their activities, music and the Colorado sport teams she followed. She especially followed UNC sports teams, the Colorado Rockies and of course, the Denver Broncos. She loved friendly conversation and all the relationships she built along with her long-standing connections and roots in Greeley. She always had a story, always making you laugh, and she had a connection to everyone she met. Everyone was and could become her friend.
She will be greatly missed by all her family and those that had the blessing of knowing her. Knowing that she had eternal salvation through her Lord, Jesus Christ, and that we one day will meet again brings us great comfort.
