

Donald Edmund Lowe peacefully passed away August 12 while on vacation in Northern Wisconsin. He was 85 years old. He was born in Bonnie Dune, North Carolina in 1931, and was the son of Harvey and Reba Lowe and brother of Vera Lowe Johnson who preceded him in death. He was the son of an Army Master Sergeant and lived on various Army posts around the country. He graduated from Clinton High School in Clinton, Tennessee in 1950 and was a member of the National Guard which was activated after his high school graduation. After two years in the Army he attended college at the University of Tennessee. In 1954, he joined the Air Force and entered the Pilot Training Program, graduating at the top of his class. He was stationed in Duluth, Minnesota where he met his future wife Susan. They were married in December of 1957. After eight years in the Air Force, they made the decision to leave the military and Don was hired by American Airlines. He was based in Dallas, Texas and retired after 26 years. He retired as a Captain and spent several years as a flight instructor at the American Airlines Flight Academy. Donald and his wife Susan were blessed with seven children who were raised in the Dallas area. In 1996, Donald and Susan moved to Estes Park, Colorado. Donald was actively involved with Our Lady of the Mountains Catholic Church along with local civic organizations including the Noon Rotary, Crossroads Ministry, and Furniture Connection. He enjoyed traveling and was an avid reader but mostly loved spending time with his family. He is survived by his wife Susan Lowe (nee Michalke); Loving father of Thomas Lowe of North Richland Hills, Texas; Elizabeth (Daniel) Beaty of Lewisville, Texas; Catherine (Michael) Neece of Colleyville, Texas; Mary (Michael) Hargrove of Colleyville, Texas; Jennifer (Richard) Jamieson, Middletown, Virginia; David (Kelly) Lowe, Cincinnati, Ohio; and Paula (Peter) Bolan of Highlands Ranch, Colorado. He is the grandfather of Mark Nelson; Kathleen (Nicolas) Ricciardelli; Clare (Blaine) Shawaker; Margaret Neece; Olivia and Grace Beaty; Sarah, Ellen, Elizabeth, Luke, Mary Clare, Thomas, and Michael Jamieson; Ryan, Collin, and Aiden Lowe; Madeleine, Caroline, Kathleen, Audrey, and Peter Bolan III. He is the great grandfather of Leo Ricciardelli and Lyla Shawaker. He is also survived by a large extended family including five sister and three brother in-laws, and numerous nieces, and nephews. A Celebration of Life Mass was held at Our Lady of the Mountains Catholic Church on August 23rd.
