Dorothy Helen Hagerman joined her Lord and Savior on June 27, 2015. She joined her beloved husband, Otis, of over 70 years who died 3 ½ years ago. Born near Springfield, MO, she was the oldest of four children to Albert Oris and Grace Taylor. All of her siblings preceded her in death.
Dorothy and Otis had four children: Mary (Bill) Applebee of Arizona and Alaska, Sharon Fuller and Cynthia Newsome of Ft. Collins, and Ronald (Toni) Hagerman of Cortez, CO. With 9 grandchildren there are many great and great-great grandchildren.
The family moved to Ft. Collins in 1950 when Otis accepted a job as an office machine mechanic. Dorothy was primarily a homemaker, but worked several short term part time jobs. She enjoyed many types of hand work, camping, and fishing with Otis until her health deteriorated.
Dorothy was a member of Calvary Baptist Temple and attended regularly until her health deteriorated to the point she could not attend, but she still enjoyed visits from her Pastor and other members. She accepted the Lord as a teen during a revival meeting in Springfield. One of Sharon’s earliest memories of Ft. Collins was when Mom took the four children and went to church at the old First Baptist Church on Remington Street. Not many years later, they moved near Calvary Baptist Church on Mountain Avenue and attended there for many years.
She was Mama to her many grandchildren and great grandchildren. She and Otis often babysat for the grandkids. They also opened their home on numerous occasions for those with a temporary need.
Otis enjoyed fishing, and the family begin to enjoy camping. Otis’s mom would come visit once a year, and she enjoyed camping-sleeping on the ground, cooking over open fire, etc. Little by little, she bought camping equipment for the family. Eventually Otis and Dorothy had a motor home and they enjoyed camping, and traveling across the country to see the kids and grandkids. Health reasons forced them to stop traveling, but they did enjoy drives through the mountains in good weather.
Dorothy was able to stay in her home until January when her health forced her to Columbine Lemay Avenue Health and Rehab where she spent her last months, with family visiting her almost every day.
