Dwight was born on October 22, 1949 in Bismarck, North Dakota, to Ted and Virginia Zundel. He spent most of his childhood in North Dakota until moving to Colorado Springs in 1967. He was drafted into the United States Army in 1969 and was stationed in Schweinfurt, Germany. Here he served as a tank operator. Dwight moved back to Colorado in 1971, worked in Colorado Springs before moving to the Greeley area. He worked at Great Western Sugar and then started and has owned Dwight’s Carpet Care for over 30 years.
Dwight is survived by his wife Barbara; daughters Angie (Scott) Johnson and Stacey (Mike) Hegarty; his extended children Bobbi (Keven) Heitschmidt, Buffi (Shawn) Elliott, and Brian (Lucrecia) Green; sister Julie (Dave) Ottem; brother Dale (Catherine) Zundel; 19 grandchildren and 1 great-grandson. Dwight was preceded in death by his parents Ted and Virginia Zundel; and brother Mark Zundel.
Dwight was a wonderful, loving husband, father, grandfather, friend, boss and landlord. His charisma and spunk filled every room he walked into. His love for his grandchildren was unconditional, even when he jokingly tried to sell one of them off. He never met a stranger and with his humor made friends with everyone. He was a man’s man, he loved his hot rods, his Westerns, but he also loved Disney movies. His family was most important to him, and if you were blessed enough to know him, you’d know that you were family. We will miss our Papa dearly.
Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday, December 30, 2016 at Waypoints Faith Community Church. The family requests that you dress comfortably in jeans and plaid. Please note that parking for the church is located at the Greeley train depot.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Waypoints Galley in care of Allnutt Funeral Service, 702 13th St., Greeley, CO, 80631. Friends may view the online obituary and send condolences at www.allnutt.com.
