He was born on August 16, 1937, in Greeley to Elbert Hutton and Dorothy Ridgeway and raised by his mother and loving stepfather Omar Wilson, whom he considered to be his father. Jerry lived a life marked by quiet strength, devotion to family, and a deep faith that shaped his later years.
Jerry graduated from College High School in 1955 and went on to live a life filled with hard work and dedication. He served honorably in the United States Army before pursuing a career in tree trimming, later working for Monfort. Jerry found his passion serving in armed security with Northern Armored Service for over 30 years.
On June 20, 1998, Jerry married the love of his life, Vicki Harris. Their marriage was a testament to enduring love, mutual respect, and shared faith.
At the age of 55, Jerry experienced a life-changing transformation when he found Jesus, a turning point that brought him great peace and joy. He loved reading his Bible, often spending quiet hours reflecting on scripture. He found beauty in the simple things: sunrises and sunsets, peaceful days spent fishing, solving puzzles, and coloring with great focus and care. Jerry’s joys also came from beloved family gatherings, game nights, good dinners and backyard tent sleepovers with grandkids. His love of fishing extended into teaching his grandchildren to fish, enjoying trips out with his sons and grandkids, who would go on to out fish him. His bond with his best friend, Bill Tulk, was especially dear, and the two spent many treasured days camping and fishing together.
Jerry is preceded in death by his parents, Elbert and Dorothy, stepfather Omar and his brother Michael Wilson. He is survived by his beloved wife, Vicki Hutton; his children: Michael Hutton (Shana), Kelly Austin (Kim), Chet Root (Landy), David Root (Edie), and Darrell Falk (Angela); five grandchildren: Lara Austin, Valerie Adams (Brandon), Trenton Root, Skylar Hutton, and Madison Root; and two great-grandchildren: Jazmin Mooney, Elijah Adams and another Adams baby on the way, due in December.
Jerry’s legacy is one of faith, family, and a quiet appreciation for life’s blessings. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
