Elizabeth “Betty” Adams passed away on Sunday night, March 19, 2017. Betty was born June 14, 1918 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She married Chester Adams on March 18, 1943 in Washington D.C., and reared her children, Charles and Allison in a suburb of Chicago. When her children were young, Betty worked as a dispatcher for the Village of Western Springs, Illinois, and served on the local school board.
In 1974 Betty and Chet returned to the Washington D.C. area, where she thrived in the historical and political environment. Accomplished at all forms of needlework, she worked at Anderson House (Society of the Cincinnati) museum restoring the tapestries exhibited there. She later worked for Sidney Yates, Congressman from Illinois, and was involved in that office with many activities associated with the opening of the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, most notably organizing and facilitating the project for children to paint ceramic tiles that reflected their thoughts and feelings about the holocaust. These tiles line one of the walls of the Education center at the USHMM, and are a part of the “Remember the Children” exhibit.
In 2000 Betty moved to northern California to be near her son. Again she embraced the area and made many friends. In 2013 she made her final move to Ft. Collins to be near her daughter. The last three and a half years have been spent enjoying family, and her friends at MacKenzie Place.
Betty was pre-deceased by her husband, Chester, in 1984, and her son, Charles, in 2016. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Allison and Art Horn of Fort Collins; daughter-in-law, Linda Ehler of Clayton, California; nieces Marsha Moore of Kentucky and Betty Jo Blanchard of Virginia; nephew Robert Dixon of Kentucky; and numerous great-nieces and nephews.
