

Gene was born in Eaton, CO on August 26, 1931 to Oscar and Hazel Sullivan. He was raised on his parents’ farm outside of Eaton, with his 6 Brothers. He enlisted in the Army on December 29, 1950 and served his Country Honorably until he was released from active duty on May 24, 1952. His service in Korea was a great trial, as well as a great source of pride to him. He was part of the landing forces and was awarded the Purple Heart, Combat Infantry Badge, United Nations Service Medal, Korean Service Medal w/1 Bronze Battle Star and 1 Overseas Bar.
After his military service, Gene returned to Eaton where he was married to Carol Bolin and began his family. He was later divorced and remarried Arlene Dobson on April 7, 1974. They celebrated their 36th Wedding Anniversary this past April.
Gene retired as a Master Mechanic for Southern Minnesota Sugar Co-op in Renville, MN. After his retirement, Gene & Arlene traveled in their RV, finally settling in Grand Junction, CO. They later relocated to Atwood, CO where they have made their home for the past 5 years.
Gene was an avid gardener, builder and backyard engineer. He loved working the land and was never idle when he could be working. Wherever he made his home, he would grow a large garden and treat the local Senior Centers to the fruits of his labor.
Gene is survived by his wife Arlene, brothers Paul (Betty), Harry (Connie), Harold (Charlene) and Tom (Pat) Sullivan. His children Kendall Sullivan, Jeannine Bergsma, Kim (Tom) Karlberg and Scott (Jana) Sullivan. His step-children David (Karen) Sullivan, Bobbie (Gary) Goodridge, Linda Miles and Beverly (DuWayne) Gerving. He is also survived by 17 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
Gene is predeceased by his parents, brothers Richard and Clyde, infant sister and grandson Micheal Kuhlman.
Calling hours will be held at Stoddard Funeral Home, Greeley, CO on Friday, August 20th from 4pm to 7pm. Services will be held at Stoddard Funeral Home on Saturday, August 21st at 1pm, burial to follow at Sunset Gardens Memorial Garden, Greeley, CO.
