

George Earl Shoemaker of Estes Park Died on June 6, 2018 in Longmont CO. George was born June 10, 1932 to parents Donald Shoemaker and Adella (Mitchell) in Shenandoah, Iowa. He graduated from Shenandoah High School in 1950. In November 1950 he married his wife of 67 years D. Joan Johannes. He joined the Navy and was a Radar Chief on a destroyer after which George continued his education in Sterling, CO and received a Bachelors’ degree from Northeastern Junior College. George was a manager at Brown Shoe Fit in Spencer, IA then a business manager at Insurance Mutual of Omaha. He was very involved in Church he was an active member of a Methodist Church a Baptist Church and then the Presbyterian Community Church of the Rockies. He would sing in choirs, often singing solos in church at weddings and funerals. He also served as Deacon and Elder and taught a weekly prayer service for men. He had many hobbies including winning golf tournaments, becoming a Master Player in Chess and summiting Longs Peak. George is preceded in death by his parents and his older brother Donald Shoemaker. He is survived by his wife Joan of Estes Park, CO, son George Gregory (Bridgetta) of NM, daughters Jeanette Urdahl (Merle) of Aurora, CO, Linda Knoche (John) of Craig, CO. George also has 14 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held Saturday July 14, 2018 in Estes Park, CO at the Presbyterian Community Church of the Rockies 1700 Brodie Ave. at 10:30 AM.
