George Zimmerman

September 22, 1925 – April 14, 2011

George Roland Zimmerman, 85, of Kersey, passed away peacefully, April 14, 2011 at Fairacres Manor in Greeley.

George was born September 22, 1925 in Alta Vista, Kansas to Reinhold and Emma (Wahl) Zimmerman. He grew up in Alta Vista, Kansas and graduated from High School in 1943.

George served in the United States Navy from February 1944 to September 1945. He married Shirley Conwell on June 13, 1948 in Alta Vista, Kansas. She passed away in November 1999.

George and Shirley moved their family to Greeley in 1963 and he worked for Ellis and Capp Equipment and Hammons Implement Co. George liked spending time in the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. He was a real Rockies fan and very much enjoyed his great grandchildren.

Survivors are his sons Rick (Barb) Zimmerman of Greeley, Kirk (Tammy) Zimmerman of Galeton. Grandchildren Matt (Pippa) Zimmerman of Houston, Texas, Mandi (Dave) Fitzjohn of Ft. Lupton, Terra Zimmerman of Denver, Tosha (Matt) Davis of Greeley, Step- Grandchildren Charity Renner of Cheyenne, Wyoming, Heather Elliott of Ft. Collins and Tonya Jones of New Orleans, Louisiana; Sister Darlene Haynes of Kansas City, Missouri and sister-in-law Vida Zimmerman of Alta Vista, Kansas

George was preceded in death by his parents, wife Shirley, daughter Tanya, 4 brothers and 1 sister.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., Monday, April 18, at Stoddard Funeral Home. Graveside service will be at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 19 at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
