Helen was born on May 25th, 1943, to Floyd and Bee Hudspeth, in Denver, Colorado. She graduated from Tascosa High School, Amarillo, Texas, in 1961. After high school, Helen went on to pursue a degree in English, at the University of Northern Colorado.
In 1959, she met Lloyd Norton, and the two were wed on December 28th, 1963. Helen and Lloyd were married for 51 years and had two children, a son, Allan, and a daughter, Laura.
Helen was a whirlwind of energy and enthusiasm, with a wide array of interests and hobbies. She was a member of the Sweet Adelines barbershop organization since 1979, singing bass in the chorus and various quartets through the years. She volunteered for a variety of causes, and in 2011, was inducted into The Greeley/Weld Senior Foundation Senior Hall of Fame.
Helen loved giraffes, and her home was decorated with her favorite animal everywhere. She even traveled to Africa to visit them in the wild. Helen was a fierce advocate for animals as well. In addition to being a proud dog mom to fur babies Bang, Smokey, Burnie, Tug, Dan, Rip, Buddy, Kuri, Moxie, and Rocket over the years, she was a regular supporter of the Weld Humane Society and the Wild Animal Sanctuary. Helen was never to be found without a book, a new houseplant, or a jigsaw puzzle in progress. She also had a preternatural ability for locating the nearest chocolate, which would appear without anyone realizing.
Helen is preceded in death by her father, Floyd Hudspeth, mother, Bee Hudspeth, and husband, Lloyd Norton. She is survived by son, Allan Norton, daughter, Laura Lewis (Mark), sister, Sue Resseguie, and brother, John Hudspeth.
A Celebration of Life will be held April 20th, 2024, at the Greeley Active Adult Center, 1010 6th Street, Greeley, CO 80631, from 1:00-4:00pm.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Helen’s name to The Wild Animal Sanctuary.
