Jack Schreiner, 79, passed away on April 7, 2016. Jack was born September 24, 1936, to Jake and Elizabeth Schreiner on their homestead in Wellington, Co. He was a graduate of Fort Collins High School, and a member of the Lambkins wrestling team; he later attended CSU.
On October 2, 1959 Jack married the love of his life, Dixy Hettinger; the couple spent the next 57 years together, raising three children. Jack proudly served his country in the United States Army, residing in California for a time before moving to Montana and eventually back to Fort Collins.
Jack was the owner and operator of the first drive thru restaurant in Fort Collins; Scotties Drive-In. He also managed the Elks’ Lodge #804, and was a volunteer with Larimer County search and rescue. Jack had many hobbies: he was a small plane pilot, fisherman, hunter and most of all a dedicated father, grandfather and husband. Jack coached his son’s baseball team and was an enthusiastic fan of all three of his grandson’s sports endeavors. After retirement, Jack “worked hard” two days a week playing poker with his Elks Club buddies and enjoyed time with Dixy.
Jack is preceded in death by his parents, brothers George, Leon, Gene, and infant brother Herman. He is survived by his wife Dixy, son Jeff, daughters Jaylee, and Jamie (Clay), and grandsons Dalton (Maddie), Colter, and Jacob, brother Bob, sister Ruth as well as a large extended family.
