James Robert Nesch was born on November 24, 1950 to Harry Richard “Rip” Nesch and Isobel Cordelia Faurot. He graduated from Ottawa High School and also attended Kansas State University, Montana State as well as Colby Community College.
In 1973, he married Stacy Williamson and were divorced. In 1982 , he married Sarah Bennett and their married life began in Fort Collins. They had two children, Elliott and Ethan. They later divorced. Jim and Sarah remained friends and co-parented their children, spending holidays and special times together.
Jim spent his working life at Nesch Brass Foundry, a sand casting operation that made original and reproduction items. The foundry was started by Jim and his father, Rip Nesch in 1978. It was a business as well as a creative outlet for Jim who enjoyed thinking of and making new things. The foundry also did artists' bronze casting including his own limited edition original bronze cast of an antelope. Antiques were also part of his business and he had a particular love for pool tables, cash registers, and juke boxes. The antique part of the business offered more contact with the community at large as much of the foundry operation was an isolated endeavor, though Jim
didn't seem to mind. Ethan and Elliott were Jim's main accomplishment in life. He was an “older” dad who was very excited to have children. He took pride in the tasks of daily living that were required to raise children particularly cooking for his boys. Jim liked traveling; he and the boys had taken several trips, usually to somewhere warm.
Jim enjoyed playing golf and had been on numerous hunting trips, mostly when he was younger. He also enjoyed gardening in his neighborhood community garden and making salsa. Since the summer, he was able to make several trips including New York with Ethan and friends as well as to Jackson Hole, Silverton, San Francisco, and Mount Rushmore. He was also able to visit Elliott and his wife and grandchildren in Oregon.
Jim is survived by his son Elliott and wife Harmony of Roseburg, OR, and grandchildren Patience, Prairie, Selah, Baruch, Serenity, and Charity as well as his son Ethan of Fort Collins CO. Other family members surviving are his sister, Janet Nesch and partner Nancy Schmalbeck of Prairie Village KS, his sister and brother-in-law, Kathryn and Jim Williamson and their son, Jacob, of Ottawa KS, his father Harry Nesch of Ottawa, KS, and aunts and cousins.
