Jean passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 18, 2023. Jean was born in Kansas on April 15, 1935. She grew up in Denver, Colorado, then attended the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley. There she met the love of her life, Ellis Eugene Overturf "Gene". Jean continued at UNC, obtaining her undergraduate and master’s degrees in Speech and Language, all while she and Gene raised five boys and one girl. She taught for a time at UNC and spent many, many years serving on the local school board. Jean had a life-long love of education, reading, music, and jigsaw puzzles. She was a master of crossword puzzles and knew the definition of more words than any of us.
A long-term resident of Greeley, Jean has now joined her beloved husband Gene, daughter Mary Elizabeth Overturf, and great-grandson, Asa Paul Overturf, all of whom preceded her in death. Jean was also preceded in death by her two sisters, Louise and Pearl “Kay”. She is survived by her brother Bill (Carlo) Sheppard, sister Patty Hilger, her five sons, Mark (Debbie), Dirk (Kim), Greg (Lea), Eric (Karla) and Kurt, 12 grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren with another on the way, as well as a large extended loving family.
A life celebration will be held later in 2023 for family and loved ones.
