

Joe was raised and educated in Omaha. He entered the United States Navy on April 12, 1946. He served aboard the USS Eversole, a Gearing class destroyer. He was a Seaman First Class working in radio tech and was honorably discharged on February 5, 1948. He had received the WWII Victory Medal.
He came to Colorado in 1951, where he settled in Aurora. He became a fireman for the Aurora Fire Department in 1955 and retired in 1981.
Joe operated a HAM Radio, his call letters were WB0PRT. He loved tinkering with the antenna for his radio and was continuously improving. He was a wealth of knowledge and shared it freely. He loved his dogs, Rufus and Caly. Joe was an outstanding fisherman and was the fishing buddy for his family, especially his grandsons.
Joe is survived by his daughters, Gayle Hughes (John) of Fort Collins and Joy Wagoner (Pete) of Eaton; son, Tom Bonacci (Trish) of Drake, Colorado; grandsons, P.J. Wagoner and Kyle Wagoner both of Eaton; sister, Donna Mae Nusbaum (Ed) of Bloomington, Illinois; niece, Trisha Nusbaum of Mansfield, Illinois and nephews, E.J. Nusbaum (Joan) of Colorado Springs and Bret Nusbaum (Keri) of Bloomington.
Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 30, 2013 at Stoddard Funeral Home. Interment Fort Logan National Cemetery, Denver.
