Lane George Williams was born November 1, 1958 in Greeley, Colorado to George Earl Williams and Doris Ann (Webster) Williams. He grew up in the New Raymer community where he was a student at Prairie School. Lane graduated in 1977. He was employed by B.F. Allison Drilling Company and Exeter Drilling Company. He graduated from the Denver Institute of Technology and started a career with the City of Greeley in January 1979.
While in 4H, he worked on many gardening projects, a pleasure that he continued through life. He showed his Shorthorn heifers and was a member of the New Raymer Chapter of Future Farmers of America. He enjoyed sheep and lambing time. He befriended many homeless cats and had pets of his own. Lane played the snare drum and participated in running events. He was a Scribe at the age of 17 while taking part in the Civil War enactment with the 2nd Wisconsin Volunteer Infantry, Company 1, West Bend, Wisconsin 1976.
A favorite pastime was riding a Honda 3 wheeler to every community within 50 miles of home, never rode on public roads and wearing out three sets of tires. Lane was never without books. He loved history, archeology, steam engine trains and excelled in all shooting sports, and was also a gunsmith. A self-made poet where he wove his own wisdom, love and whit into his writings. His recipes for a wicked Bar-B-Que sauce and Jerky will be missed.
Lane was a fireman with Western Hills Fire Department for 25 years. He assisted with the survey work when the museum performed Electro-magnetic photo fields at the Lancaster Lupton Trading Post. He loved the prairie lands and enjoyed his many friends. There were no strangers in his life.
Lane was married but later divorced. He had one son Orrin, who was the light of his life. Orrin preceded Lane to the afterlife.
Lane is survived by his mother Doris Williams; very special friends Mary Lou Vlastelic, Travis Dean Hill and Jennifer Hill, Dale Green, work partner of ten years Wendie Whitehouse; many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews and numerous friends.
He was preceded in death by his father George Earl Williams, his son Orrin Dale Williams; grandparents Wayne and Helen Webster and C.R and Gertrude Williams and several other relatives.
A Celebration of Life will be held Friday, April 21, 2017 at 3:00 p.m. at the 4-H Building, Island Grove Park, Greeley, Colorado.
