

Larry Lee Wacker, 73, of Greeley, died Monday, December 30, 2013 at North Colorado Medical Center. Larry was born on October 17, 1940 in Wayne, Nebraska to Henry Wacker, Jr. and Gladys Marie (Fisher) Wacker.
Larry was raised and educated in Wayne. He attended country grade schools and graduated from Wayne High School in 1958. After graduation, he started working for a Safeway store in 1959 in Wayne.
On September 18, 1960, he married Vernice Vahlkamp at Grace Lutheran Church in Wayne.
After their marriage, Larry and Vernice lived in the Denver area. He transferred to the Denver Division of Safeway. He and his family moved to Boulder in 1961, until 1970, when the family moved to Greeley. He managed the Hillside Center Safeway, Greeley. He then managed stores in Loveland and Brighton. Then they moved to Lakewood in 1978, where he managed the Cherry Creek Safeway. In 1981, he became a District Manager for the Greeley District. During his time with Safeway, he received many recognitions, including Denver Division 1994 District Manager of the Year. He retired in 1999.
He was a member of the Sunrise Sam’s RV Camping Club and a lifelong Lutheran and member of Gloria Christi Lutheran Church, Greeley. He held various positions in his church, including building chairman of the new sanctuary.
Larry enjoyed golfing, RV camping, playing pool and cards, traveling and fishing trips to Canada. They enjoyed wintering in Mesa, Arizona. Larry had a large circle of friends.
Larry is survived by his wife, Vernice of Greeley; daughter, Colette Tossie (Gary) of Greeley; son, Todd Wacker (Nikkie) of Littleton; sister, Judy Hicks (Bob) of Arvada; brother, Charles Wacker (Vicky) of Brighton; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be from 3:00-6:00 p.m. Sunday, January 5, 2014 at Stoddard Funeral Home. Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, January 6, 2014 at Gloria Christi Lutheran Church, 1322 31st Avenue, Greeley (13th Street and 31st Avenue). Interment Sunset Memorial Gardens.
