Lloyd was born to Manuel and Emma (Brunner) Kindsfater on January 29, 1935 at the hospital in Windsor, Colorado. (Yes, at one time there was a hospital in Windsor.) He attended school in Eaton and also the three-room Buell country school, north of Greeley, from first grade through eighth grade. He then attended Meeker Junior High, and graduated from Greeley High School (Central) in 1952. He was an All- Conference right guard on GHS’s 1951 State Championship football team coached by Dick Nolan. He was also a very good fast pitch softball pitcher. Lloyd went on to graduate from Colorado A&M (Aggies), now Colorado State University, in 1956 with a degree in Agricultural Economics.
On September 4th, 1955 he married Marilyn Deer in Greeley at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, of which he was an active lifetime member.
Following in his father’s footsteps, Lloyd was proud to be a farmer and cattle feeder until Parkinson’s made it impossible. He took such pride in his farm, crops, and cattle. He also worked for many years as a realtor with A. Bruce Johnson and Associates. Prior to Parkinson’s disease, Lloyd was very active in the agricultural community, serving on the Board of Directors of Greeley Producers Livestock Marketing Association, President of Weld County Extension Governing Board, President and board member of Colorado Cattle Feeders Association, as well as National Cattlemen’s Association. He also served as chairman during the construction of Eaton’s Agland (now Agfinity) condo corn storage facility #1. He was President and a long-time member of T-Bone club as well as Ducks Unlimited. Lloyd was also a member of the Greeley/Weld County airport board and a long-time AOPA member (Airplane Owners and Pilots Association).
Lloyd loved hunting and fishing, but his greatest love was flying his 1962 P-Model V-Tail Beechcraft Bonanza. He was also certified to fly 33 different models of airplanes, in which he took much pride. He held many ratings, including aerobatics. He also experienced flight, sometimes quite harrowing, in his Quicksilver ultralight. He also enjoyed flying radio-controlled airplanes and reading books about aviation. His favorite book was an autobiography of R. A. “Bob” Hoover’s fifty years of flying entitled Forever Flying, considered by many to have been the world’s greatest pilot.
Lloyd was a true, loyal, and dependable friend to many. Before Parkinson’s disease he rarely missed going to Producer’s coffee shop for early morning coffee and breakfast to catch up on the news of the day from his fellow farmers.
Lloyd cherished his family and always looked forward to family gatherings. So very blessed to have shared Lloyd’s full life are his wife, Marilyn, and his five children: Lynn (Vance) Crocker, Corpus Christi, TX/Phoenix, AZ; Kirk (Debbie) Kindsfater, Eaton, CO; Jill (Bobby) Pfankuch, Fort Collins, CO; Jane Kindsfater, Fort Collins, CO; and Craig Kindsfater, Greeley, CO.
