Lorraine M. Jelinek

Lorraine Mae Jelinek, 92, of La Salle, died Monday, January 6, 2014 at North Colorado Medical Center, Hospice unit. She was born on December 1, 1921 in St. Paul, Minnesota to Garfield and Rose (Benedict) Schroeder.

Lorraine grew up in River Falls, Wisconsin, where she graduated from River Falls High School in 1940. On November 15, 1946, she married W.R. “Bill” Jelinek in River Falls.

Lorraine served in the United State Army during WWII as a nurse and was stationed at Fitzsimmons Army Hospital in Denver, when she met Bill. She was a Tech 5 upon her honorable discharge.

Lorraine and Bill lived in Collier, Kansas for ten years. They moved to Colorado on September 1, 1959 and moved in to their present home on July 1, 1960. She worked outside the home through the 1970s. Lorraine was a charter member of La Salle F.O.E. #3519 Auxiliary.

Lorraine enjoyed crocheting, playing cards, fishing, wine making, gardening and the occasional trip to the casinos. As a homemaker she enjoyed cooking and baking. She also provided daycare for many years. Lorraine loved her pets and enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. Bill and Lorraine also enjoyed their retirement years as “Winter Texans”.

Lorraine is survived by her husband, Bill; sons, Gary L. Jelinek (Linda) and Danny D. Jelinek (Cheryl) all of Greeley and Jay W. Jelinek of La Salle; five grandchildren, Jeffrey Jelinek and Tony Jelinek both of Denver, David Jelinek of Greeley, Joe Jelinek of Fort Collins and Jennifer Jelinek (Ryan Winter) of Golden; a great-granddaughter, Jenna Lynn Jelinek and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Floyd and her parents.

Visitation will be from 3:00-5:00 p.m. Thursday, January 9, 2014 at Stoddard Funeral Home. Graveside service will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday, January 10, 2014 at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
