Sept. 25, 1923-April 1, 2014
Age: 90, of Greeley
Mable L. “Jackie” Fisher passed away, peacefully at her home in Greeley, on April 1, 2014. Jackie was born at Terminal Island, Calif., on Sept. 25, 1923, to Mary and Charles.
Jackie grew up in San Pedro, Calif., and graduated from Nurse’s Training at San Diego’s Mercy Hospital. Upon graduation, she joined the Army as a nurse. Travels took her to various duty stations in the U.S., Japan, France, and Germany. She married Keith Fisher in Jan. 1953 in Bad Kreuznach, Germany. Briefly thereafter, she resigned her commission to start a family. Her husband’s military career and retirement afforded her the opportunity to live in several places including Schenectady, N.Y., Torrance and Marina, Calif., Kaiserslautern, Germany, Aurora and Grand Junction, Colo., and finally Greeley. When children were still at home, travel primarily revolved around camping trips and journeys to visit relatives. Later, together with her husband, she traveled throughout Colo., and the western states, as well as, Alaska, Mexico, and Puerto Rico.
She enjoyed reading, cooking, sewing and crafting. She volunteered at school, Girl Scouts, and the Blood Bank at St. Mary’s Hospital in Grand Junction. Her favorite pastime was playing games (especially with her family) including cribbage, which she usually won! She was a member of First Congregational Church of Greeley.
Jackie is survived by two daughters, Kay Fisher of Greeley, and Terri (Scott) Marikis of Nine Mile Falls, Wash., grandchildren, Samantha Marikis (Cory Rickard), Sofie, Stefanie and Sonja Marikis and Gina Marrow; one great-granddaughter, Shelby Cromwell; sister, Catherine; sister-in-law, Rosemarie; and four nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Charles; and husband, Keith Fisher.
Special thanks go to the caregivers, Carol Baker, Kelly Baker, Magdalena Pantoja, Dorothy Waller, RVNA Nurse Amy; and Hospice of Northern Colorado.
