

Marian Schrader Smith was born in Denver, CO on January 18, 1927 to Wayne and Elizabeth Schrader. Died March 7, 2016 at age 89. The Schrader family moved to Fort Collins in 1937. She graduated from Fort Collins High School in 1945. After graduating from Colorado Women’s College, Marian attended Denver University where she met and married Harold Smith. They had one son, Tracy Smith, currently a practicing Veterinarian in California.
Marian was an accomplished horsewoman and rode for the CWC equestrian team. In 1958 she joined the Epsilon Sigma Alpha sorority and was the historian for several years. She also owned and operated and loved her shop, “The Melting Pot.” She was skilled in painting, ceramics and bead work, having a great talent for combination of colors. Despite the devastation of polio at age 26, she remained a very adventurous person who loved animals, cultural events and her winters in Arizona. Her many friends enjoyed her sense of humor, zest for learning and eagerness for new adventures.
She is survived by her son, Tracy (Patty) Smith; grandsons, Jason (Sarah) Smith and Cody Smith; she was very close to her brother, Wayne (Phyllis) Schrader; nephews, Perry (Juli) Schrader, Steve (Susan) Schrader; niece, Jennifer Schrader; and 7 grand nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on April 2, at 11:00 AM at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 2000 Stover Street, Fort Collins, CO. A private inurnment will take place at Grandview Cemetery.
