Marie was born on December 8, 1940, in Santa Barbara, California. She spent her childhood and young adult life near the beach and ocean. Her passion for the ocean and its beauty stayed with her throughout her life. She married Ralph Bogart on August 27, 1960. Their love, commitment, and friendship strengthened during their 53-year marriage. They lived in Japan, Colorado Springs, and Los Angeles, and then relocated to Greeley in 1967 where they stayed to raise their family and make their home. Beginning in 1976, Marie worked at Weld County School District 6 for over twenty years. The friendships she made during her time with District 6 were some of her most cherished. In 2010, Marie was inducted into the Greeley West Hall of Fame for her administrative services.
Upon retirement, Marie and Ralph spent many happy days at their Estes Park cabin, hiking, cross country skiing, snowshoeing, and sightseeing in the Rocky Mountains. Through the years, Marie traveled extensively with friends and family to visit many interesting and beautiful places around the world. She loved the history of a place and especially enjoyed travel to her childhood home of Santa Barbara and her ancestral home, Sicily. She enjoyed quiet times with her pets and loved gardening, watercolor painting, Tai Chi, photography, scrapbooking, sewing and genealogy. Marie and Ralph attended the Christian Church in Estes Park.
Marie will be remembered as a caring, active, fun person and as a wonderful grandma who kept pace with technology, and was immeasurably supportive of family and friends.
She is survived by her husband, Ralph Bogart of Greeley, by three children: Rod (Lisa) Bogart, San Rafael, California; Terri (Ken) Torke, Sunnyvale, California; Wendy LeClaire (Chris Genz), Denver, Colorado; and two grandchildren, Zach Bogart and Max Torke.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Orin and Dora (Sunseri) Clem and her step-mother, Liona (Whitmer) Clem.
A service to celebrate Marie’s life will be held Saturday, February 22, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at Stoddard Funeral Home, 3205 West 28th Street, Greeley, Colorado 80634.
