Marion Louise Capo, loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother passed away on October 1, 2016, in Estes Park, Colorado. Born to Elmer and Leatha Gateley, Marion lived a happy and modest childhood in Farmington Michigan. She was the eldest of four siblings, including Robert and Bert Gateley and Lois Mitchell. Marion worked as a switchboard operator for Bell Telephone in Detroit, Michigan. On a visit to Chicago in 1945 she was introduced to Joseph Capo, whose sister insisted that he invite Marion to accompany him and his girlfriend on a movie date that evening. Joe, a shrewd WWII sailor, arranged to have Marion sit between him and his girlfriend. By the final credits Marion and Joe had fallen in love. They were married several months later on January 10, 1946, and were devoted to one another for 52 years.
Three children were to follow: Karen (Phillips), Larry Capo and Mary Ann (Marcum). Marion devoted her life to her family and took pride in her home, her children and her grandchildren. A talented seamstress, she made clothes for each generation of offspring including several newborn babies that she and Joe lovingly fostered after their own children went off to college.
Upon Joe’s retirement they moved to New Port Richey, Florida to be near Marion’s parents and sister. They lived there until Joe’s death in 1997. In 2013, Marion moved to Good Samaritan Village in Estes Park, Colorado to be near her daughter Karen. She peacefully passed away at Prospect Park Living Center just two months before her 90th birthday.
