

He was born July 26, 1942, to Alvena and Clarence Geile in Cheyenne, Wyoming. Mike graduated from St. Mary’s High School in Cheyenne, WY and from Regis College in 1964 with a degree in business. After his graduation, he continued his education at UNC, CU and The University of Idaho. He enjoyed golf and playing the piano but his true passion was community service.
Mike came to Greeley in 1978 with Public Service Co. of Colorado. He was the broker/owner of a real estate company, was elected and served as a Weld County Commissioner from 1999 to 2007 and served as Trustee of Aims Community College from 2007 to 2015.
Mike shared his commitment to Greeley and Weld County by serving the NCMC, Inc. Board of Directors, Weld County Homeless Coalition, 2-1-1 Advisory Committee, Community for Kids, Catholic Charities/Guadalupe Shelter, Embrace Northern Colorado, Northern Colorado El Pomar Foundation, Greeley/Weld Chamber Board, Upstate Board of Directors, Greeley Rotary, Chairman of Ballfields for Kids, Bi-county Transportation Authority Board, Bank One Board of Directors, Chair Greeley Dream Team, Chair Aims Foundation, UNC Foundation, Weld Housing Taskforce, Tech Prep Advisory Board, Co-Founder Promises for Children, LULAC Dollars for Scholars, Success By Six, Community Foundation Greeley/Weld County and Trinity Episcopal Church vestry.
Mike has been honored for his dedication to the community by receiving numerous awards: Centennial Rotary Businessman of the Year, United Way Humanitarian of the Year, EDAP Community Excellence, Torch Bearer for the 1996 Olympics, Greeley Board of Realtors Citizen of the Year, Occidental Lodge #20 Lifetime Achievement Award, Leann Anderson Community Care Award, Distinguished Fellow of Aims Community College, United Way Live United Award, LULAC Lifetime Achievement Award.
Mike is survived by his wife, Helen; daughters, Jamie (Kris) Lindahl, Dianne (Patrick) McGinty; sons, David and Michael Geile; grandchildren Tessa Lindahl, Fisher Lindahl, Quentin Geile, Brendan and Sean McGinty; brothers, Robert (Sharon) Geile and Patrick (Jonene) Geile; numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Thursday, August 10, 2017, at Trinity Episcopal Church.
