

Michael Eugene Johnson age 61, passed away on November 17, 2022, surrounded by his family. His love, energy, and charismatic personality will be missed by many. He knew no stranger. His family is deeply saddened by his passing but grateful that he now has new lungs from his rapidly declining health due to Interstitial Lung disease and Pulmonary Fibrosis. He fought to the very end. Born, March 7, 1961, in Denver, Colorado to Calvin Simpson and Janet (Jensen) Johnson.
At a young age his mother married Samuel Johnson, and he loved Michael as his own. Michael spent his years growing up in the Denver, Crested Butte, and Montrose area, moving frequently as his father was a miner. Michael followed in his father’s footsteps working in the mining industry. Michael married Sue Lofdahl in 1982 and from that union, they had two children, Bobby Johnson and Felicia Label. They later divorced. Michael worked for years with Penhall Construction at DIA repairing the runways. Michael met the love of his life, Jolene (Reiff) Cummings, and they were married November 20, 2004. He enjoyed being a grandparent to his 9 grandchildren, Angel, Raley, Kylee, Trenton, Corbin, Ryker, Naomi, Deziray and Lola. They enjoyed camping, fishing, riding the 4-wheeler and later the golf cart. He was a dedicated Hunter and enjoyed the many hunting camps with family and friends. He moved to Salt Lake City, Utah, for 9 years, where he was employed at Kennecott Mine driving a Haul Truck, every boy’s dream. There he made life-long friends. When he moved back to Greeley, he became an avid fan of the Colorado Eagles and encouraged his grandson Ryker to play. He never missed a practice or a game until the end. Michael’s trip of a life time, was going to Alaska. He spent time in Haines, Alaska and then drove to Fairbanks, Alaska enjoying the beauty of the state. His wish was to die at home and his wife Jolene honored his wish and was his caretaker till the end of his life.
Michael is preceded in death by both fathers, Calvin Simpson and Samuel Johnson; mother, Janet Johnson; and his brothers, Fred Johnson, Little Mike Johnson.
Michael is survived by his wife of 18 years, Jolene Johnson;, son Bobby Johnson(Selena), daughter Felicia Label and stepdaughter Bre Benavidez (Gabe); along with his brothers Jimmy Johnson (Kathy), George Johnson (Colleen), Kevin Johnson (Heidi) and Gerald Johnson (Melissa); sister Colleen Swindell (Jeff); father in-law, Wayne Reiff; brother in-law, Gerald Reiff (Theya); sister in-law, Marsha Walts (Allan); nieces and nephews and many friends, especially those from 55+ Resort in Windsor, where he lived for the last two years.
A celebration of the life of Michael Johnson, such a kind and good man, will be held for family and friends at 2 p.m. on Sunday, December 4th, 2022 at the Grace Community Church in Johnstown, Colorado. Reception will follow. Bring a favorite photo or be prepared to share a special moment during the reception.
