Mick McCarthy

Mickey “Mick” McCarthy of La Salle died Sunday, September 11, 2011 at North Colorado Medical Center, with his family by his side. He was born May 13, 1954 to John Doyle and Betty Jean (Rohn) McCarthy, in Greeley.

Mick attended school in La Salle and graduated from Valley High School in 1972. After graduation Mick worked for Hensel Phelps. For twenty-nine years Mick farmed in the La Salle area on various farms including the McCarthy family farm. For the last seven years Mick worked full time as an electrician.

On November 11, 1995 Mick joined his partner for life, Elise Sundem.

Mick was very giving of himself and was always willing to lend a helping hand. He enjoyed building and racing hotrod tractors, hunting and fishing, four wheeling, and Sudoku puzzles. He was very creative and had a love for animals and nature.

Mick was a member of Colorado Tractor Pulling Association and Evans Moose Lodge, #909.

He is survived by his wife, Elise Sundem of La Salle; father, Doyle McCarthy of La Salle; sister, Debbie Gaskill (Randy) of Greeley; brothers, Jim McCarthy (Jodi) of La Salle and Tom McCarthy (Jill) of Greeley; nieces and nephews Jonathon McCarthy, Heather McCarthy, Raelene McCarthy, Kourtney McCarthy, Sammy Stearns, and Krissy Stearns; mother and father-in-law, Connie and Marlyn Tracy; brother-in-law, Lester Sundem; sister-in-law, Denise (Ken) Conradson. He was preceded in death by his mother and sister Sharon Sterling.

Visitation will be held 5-7 p.m. Thursday at Stoddard Funeral Home. Funeral service 10 a.m. Friday at St. John’s United Church of Christ. Interment 1 p.m. Friday at Linn Grove Cemetery.
