Norma J. King

Norma J. King, 72, of Fort Collins, CO. passed away on September 26, 2016. Norma was born on July 25, 1944 in Hot Springs, South Dakota to Walter John and Fern Leona (Bowers) Burg. Norma was an intelligent person. After graduating from high school in 1962, she attended Chadron State Teaching College, simply known today as Chadron State College, for secretarial education. She put her education to work immediately, being employed by the United States Forest Service in 1963. She worked between Hot Springs, SD and Chadron, NE until 1969. She met the love of her life, Dean C. King, through her job where Dean was also employed. They were married in May of 1969 in Rapid City, South Dakota. Due to the nature of Dean’s career, they moved numerous times. At one time they moved to Syracuse, NE. where Dean was a Soil Surveyor for the Soil Conservation Service. In 1982 Dean and Norma moved to Colorado. Dean worked for the University of Colorado in Boulder from 1983 to 1990. Norma was a Secretary in Boulder for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). She was well versed in Latin, which helped tremendously in her work for NOAA proofreading contractual documents. In 1991, they moved to Fort Collins where Dean worked as a custodian until his retirement and Norma was unable to work due to mental health illness. Norma was born and raised Lutheran and was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran in Fort Collins. She was a quiet and reserved personality. Norma enjoyed reading and needlework, which her husband Dean cherishes and are displayed on the walls of his home. She will be dearly missed by her husband. She was preceded in death by her parents. Norma is survived by her husband of 47 years, Dean C. King; her sister Carol Borgialli; one niece, Susan Thomsen; and two nephews, Mike and Mertin Borgialli. Norma will be laid to rest at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver, CO. on Tuesday, October 10, 2016.
