Phillip was born on February 2, 1931, in Springer, New Mexico, to Jose and Eloyda (Ortiz) Gallegos. He was raised in New Mexico and Colorado. He enlisted in the US Army in May of 1949 and served until August of 1953. During this time, he served with the 7th Army Cavalry.
On April 4, 1954, he married Dora Garcia of Pierce. They celebrated 50 years of marriage before her passing on February 28, 2005.
Phillip worked multiple jobs before retiring from Kodak in Windsor in 1990. He was a volunteer firefighter for 19 years with the Ault/Pierce Fire Department, and was a life member of the VFW Post 4334. He served as Commander for several terms, including being an All State Commander from 1992-1993. He was also a member of the Kooties.
Phillip enjoyed gardening, watching his children and grandchildren play sports, was an avid Bronco and Rockie fan and, enjoyed gambling- making day trips to Blackhawk.
He is survived by his children, Anita (Mark) Duran, Philip (Patricia), Eddie (Kathy), Joe (Peggy), Debbie (Kenney) Martinez; 21 grandchildren, 40 plus great-grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; his siblings Theresa Greene, Patricia Jojola, Richard (Mary), and Orlando (Delores); as well as several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife; son Eugene; 4 brothers; 2 sisters and is parents.
A visitation will be held at 4:00 P.M. with Rosary to follow starting at 6:30 P.M. Thursday, March 7, 2019. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:30 P.M. Friday, March 8, 2019 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Ault. Interment at the Ault Cemetery.
