

Phyllis Elaine Anderson of Ft. Collins, formerly of Greeley, passed away Tuesday, August 21, 2018 at her home. Phyllis was born January 22, 1923 in Highland Park, MI to Henry H. and Elizabeth (Cheney) Gates. She married Quintin E. Anderson in May of 1946 at the Calvary Baptist Church in Denver and were very happily married and madly in love for over 70 years. Quintin died in September of 2016.
Phyllis’s mother died when Phyllis was 13 months old. She was raised by her grandparents, Alfred Birdsell and Clazina J. (Honigh) Cheney in Denver, CO from the time she was 6 years old before moving to Greeley to attend college at UNC (formerly CSCE) where she studied for her Bachelor’s degree and was just one quarter shy of earning her teaching degree. Shortly after she married Quintin the family moved to Fort Morgan where they lived and raised their children until the early 1970 after which time they returned to Greeley.
Early childhood education was important to Phyllis and while in Fort Morgan she was very instrumental in making sure that kindergarten was integrated into the K-12 school system. She also taught as a substitute teacher there. Her faith in God and involvement in the church were an important part of her life. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Fort Morgan and Greeley and the West Greeley Baptist Church.
Phyllis is survived by her son Forrest L. Anderson; daughters Jeanette C. Wood and Carol Elaine Greenwell; sister Ruth Gates McCrumb; godson Ron Herberholz; brother-in-law Cecil “Wally” Anderson and his wife Harriett Anderson; sister-in-law Joyce Virginia “Ginny/Polly” Webb and her husband Ralph Webb, Jr.; best friend Betty Rae (Symonds) Marshall; special Nieces, Nephews and Cousins; as well as seven grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Quintin; her parents, grandparents and her siblings.
A graveside service will be held at 1:00 P.M., Friday, August 24, 2018 at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
