Rex William Hester, 90, of Greeley, passed away at his home on January 18, 2015. He was born February 11, 1924 in DeSmet, SD, to Robert L. and Bertha Blanch (Hebb) Hester. He married Judith D. Barrett on June 21, 1947 in Meeker, CO. They were married 62 years until her passing in May 2008.
Rex graduated from high school in Pisgah, Iowa. He went on to graduate from Colorado College in Colorado Springs with a B.A. in teaching and coaching. He resided in Pisgah, Iowa, and moved to Colorado in 1957 living in Colorado Springs, Meeker, Idaho Springs, Brighton, and Littleton, CO, moving to Greeley in 1969.
Rex was a rancher, farmer, teacher, coach administrator and carpenter. He was a member of the United State Marine Corps from December of 1942 until his honorable discharge in March of 1946. He participated in action against the enemy at Saipan, Marianna’s Islands, from June 15, 1944 to July 9, 1944. He participated in the battle of Tinian, Marianna’s Island from July 24, 1944 to August 2, 1944. He was issued the Honorable Service Lapel Button and the Good Conduct Medal.
Rex enjoyed woodworking, and collecting (many things). Some of his favorite quotes were “Fish and visitors stink after 3 days”, “Slicker than snot on a brass door knob”, and “I don’t give a rats ass”. He had a great sense of humor.
He is survived by his son, Kent Allen (Cindy) Hester; daughter, Kyle Anne Lucks; grandchildren, Forrest (Lindsay) Hester, Nate (Laura) Hester, Josh (Julie) Hester, Jolene Hester (Chad) Cooley, Tyler (Amy) Lucks, Kelsey Lucks (Boczak) Pitts and MacKenzie Lucks (Marco Grossi); and 16 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and by his wife Judy Hester.
Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, January 24, 2014 at the Allnutt Macy Chapel with a reception to follow in the Allnutt Reception Center.
